The 2026 AUSA Annual Meeting & Exposition will take place on October 12–14 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. With the event approaching, optics brands, distributors and sourcing teams can use the visit to compare potential partners and turn product conversations into clear evaluation plans.
This preview brings together confirmed event information and practical questions for optics buyers. Event details were checked on October 8, 2026.
Organizer: Association of the United States Army (AUSA).
Dates: October 12–14, 2026.
Main venue: Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Washington, D.C.
2026 theme: “America’s Army: The Foundation of the Joint Force.”
Indoor exhibit hours: 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. daily, local Washington, D.C. time.
AUSA combines a land-power exposition with professional development. Registration requires an identifiable relationship with AUSA under the organizer’s eligibility policy. A printed badge is required for the indoor exhibit halls and ticketed functions. Check the official AUSA 2026 website for registration requirements and the current program before traveling.
AUSA has announced outdoor exhibits at 900 9th Street NW, across 9th Street from The Westin DC Downtown. The featured exhibits include the Siemens eXplore tour, the Ukrainian Defense Tech Pavilion and GRVTY.
The outdoor area has a different schedule from the indoor halls: October 12 and 13, 9:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m.; October 14, 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. A registration badge is required. Allow time to move between locations and consult the official outdoor exhibits page for the walking route and latest details.
For buyers, a separate exhibit location makes appointment planning more important. Group meetings by location and leave time afterward to record what was demonstrated, what documentation was promised and what still needs verification.
A trade-show conversation is most useful when both sides work from the same requirements. Before discussing a red dot sight, magnifier or prism optic, prepare a short specification brief covering the intended application, mounting interface, target dimensions, optical requirements and sample acceptance criteria.
Start with compatibility. A named footprint alone may leave questions about screw dimensions, engagement depth, recoil-lug geometry and clearance. Ask for a dimensioned interface drawing and identify the actual host platform or adapter used for sample evaluation.
Next, separate an attractive demonstration from evidence that supports a purchasing decision. Handling a sample can reveal control placement and adjustment feel. It cannot establish service life, environmental resistance or production consistency. Those questions require documented methods, acceptance limits and an agreed sample plan.
Useful questions to take into a meeting include:
Configuration: Which exact model, revision, reticle, mount and accessory set does the quotation cover?
Test evidence: What method, conditions, sample quantity and pass criteria support each performance claim?
Manufacturing control: Which characteristics are inspected, and how are results connected to a production batch?
Customization: Which changes affect tooling, sample approval, packaging or minimum order requirements?
After-sales handling: How are returned units assessed, and what information is required to investigate a fault?
These are procurement questions, not claims about any particular AUSA exhibitor. Apply the same criteria to each supplier so the resulting comparison reflects your requirements.
For each promising discussion, record the supplier, product revision, unresolved questions and agreed next step. Request drawings, quotations and test information against the same configuration. If a specification changes during follow-up, update the brief before comparing prices or approving samples.
A practical next step is a sample evaluation with explicit acceptance criteria. Define what will be checked, who will carry out the evaluation and what evidence will be retained. Resolve mismatches before moving to a larger order; a successful booth demonstration is only one input to that decision.
For HERTDOT readers preparing an optics project, review the OEM/ODM information and contact HERTDOT with your product brief and sample evaluation requirements.
Use the organizer’s current agenda and exhibitor information to build your itinerary. Confirm appointments directly and recheck locations and access requirements before departure. A focused visit should leave you with clearer technical requirements, comparable supplier evidence and a specific follow-up plan.
